Twin Wire Arc Spray Process
This process, also known as “arc spray,” involves the simultaneous melting of two wires while propelling the atomized particles toward the deposition substrate using compressed air. Proper surface preparation is necessary to ensure a strong bond, usually achieved through grit blasting to texture the substrate. This texturing allows the molten particles to securely key into the parent material, resulting in exceptionally high bond strengths.
Arc spray is an excellent low-cost process for wear, dimensional restoration, electrical conductivity, and friction surfaces. This coating can be applied to the O.D., I.D. to 6” and flat surfaces.
All areas where coating is not permitted will have to be masked off to protect it from grit blasting, as well as the arc spray process. The procedure involves a low-heat input. However, distortion can occur by grit blasting and arc spraying thin materials.
