Hard Face Welding
Discover Innovative Hard Face Welding Services
SURFALLOY’s hard face welding uses a high-energy electric arc and constriction of inert gases to produce an ionized plasma column. Powdered metal is added to the plasma column to create a liquid puddle that metallurgically bonds to the base material. The alloy coating used in our welding process is fusion-bonded and not chemically or mechanically bonded. Discover more about our expertise in welding by viewing our previous projects.
Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) Welding
Powder arc welding uses a high-energy electric arc and constriction of inert gases to produce an ionized plasma column. Afterward, powdered metal is added to the plasma column to create a liquid puddle that metallurgically bonds to the base material. Keep in mind that alloy coating is fusion-bonded, not chemically or mechanically bonded.
Benefits of Hard Face Welding:
- Makes single-pass coating practical because the dilution of the coating by base materials is less than 10%.
- Results in easier and quicker finish machining.
- Offers a wide coating range, which can be deposited from .060” to .500”.
- Provides an excellent method of applying high-quality, low-dilution coatings for a wide variety of industrial applications.
Advantages of Powder Arc Welding:
- High density.
- No porosity.
- No inclusions.
- True metallurgical bond with the base material.
- Reduced heat input prevents undesirable changes to the base material.
- Low amperage and small heat-affected zone mean distortion is minimized, and less thermal stress is induced into the base material.
Applications:
- Forging Tools
- Tool and Die Resurfacing
- Glass Mold Resurfacing
- Wear Plate Overlays
- Valve Rebuilding
- Mining Equipment Resurfacing
- Mixing Blades
- Hammermills
- Fan Blades
- Scraper Blades
- Knives
Common Alloys:
- Iron-Based Alloys
- Nickel-Based Alloys
- Cobalt-Based Alloys
- Tungsten Carbide
